Miami, Florida – March 23rd, 2016- Cuban Democratic Directorate. Independent journalist Lazaro “Yuri” Valle Roca has not been seen since his violent apprehension at the hands of State Security police a few hours before the historic arrival of President Barack Obama in Cuba.

The objective of the young activists who stepped into the live Bob Ley ESPN shot during coverage of the baseball game yesterday was precisely that of bringing worldwide attention to the disappearance of Yuri, as well as insisting on the release of all Cuban political prisoners. “Our protest was in demand of the release of Yuri Valle Roca,” Yassel Rivero, who appeared before the cameras next to Ley, told the Cuban Democratic Directorate. Rivero further stated that they protested Yuri’s kidnapping and demanded to know whether he was dead or alive.

In response to the violent abduction of independent journalist Lázaro Yuri Valle Roca, whose whereabouts are unknown, Freedom House issued the following statement:

“The Cuban government should inform Valle Roca’s family of his whereabouts and release him immediately,” said Carlos Ponce, director for Latin America programs. “Despite President Castro’s claims to defend human rights, the Cuban government continues its blatant repression of freedom of speech, freedom of the press and the right to peacefully protest.” >Link
